The family of the late 38-year-old Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, who was allegedly murdered by his friend, has attributed attempts by some members to assault the suspect to the profound emotional distress and grief they have endured since the officer’s death.
Kwasi Amoako, a brother of the deceased, explained that the circumstances surrounding his brother’s demise have been devastating, causing intense agitation whenever they encounter the suspect during court proceedings.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Amoako detailed the gruesome nature of the death, allegedly at the hands of someone the officer trusted. He stated that the family’s reactions are a direct result of their pain.
“Our brother was gruesomely murdered, and the family is deeply bereaved. You must understand that what is happening is borne out of pain,” Mr. Amoako said. He appealed for understanding from observers, noting, “Whenever you see these suspects, you become agitated… For those who see us reacting toward the suspects, forgive us, but understand our pain. We are still grieving.”
He further conveyed the depth of the family’s anguish, stating that were it not for the rule of law, some relatives “would have taken matters into our own hands and dealt with the suspect ruthlessly.” He concluded, “The suspect had no mercy with our brother. He gruesomely murdered him, severed his body, and so we are aggrieved by what happened.”
Mr. Amoako also expressed frustration regarding the ongoing judicial process. He highlighted the negative impact of repeated postponements, noting that family members must travel from the Ashanti Region to Accra for every hearing.
Despite the emotional toll, the family commended the Ghana Police Service for its professionalism in handling the investigation, encouraging the service to maintain its diligent work.
The case has been adjourned to October 22, as prosecutors await a forensic report before submitting the docket to the Attorney-General’s office.
