The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has distributed more than 6.6 million sanitary pads to schoolgirls across all 16 regions of the country.
The distribution, it said, was part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
A statement issued by the GES and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyii, on Saturday, October 11, disclosed that the distribution aims to address menstrual hygiene challenges and ensure that no girl misses school during her period.
He stated that a total of 6,607,095 sanitary pads have been distributed to schoolgirls from the basic to second-cycle levels. The intervention is in fulfillment of the government’s promise to provide free sanitary pads to all schoolgirls on a monthly basis throughout their time in school.
He added the initiative affirms government’s commitment to improving menstrual hygiene, promoting gender equality in education, and safeguarding the health and confidence of adolescent girls.
