The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodioo constituency, Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie, has officially launched a comprehensive scholarship scheme slated to support a total of 500 beneficiaries.
The initiative is designed to provide financial aid to 400 brilliant but needy students currently pursuing tertiary education, with the remaining 100 scholarships designated for students from the basic to the secondary school level.
MP Ashie disclosed the launch of the scheme on Sunday, October 12, 2025, during a ceremony held at Akoto Lante, a community within the constituency. The event also saw him present trunks and mattresses to over 400 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates who have secured boarding admission into Senior High Schools.
Mr. Ashie explained that the scholarship initiative would be overseen and managed by a seven-member board.
Using the platform, the MP encouraged the newly admitted BECE graduates to prioritize their academic pursuits in Senior High School, promising that those who demonstrate diligence and achieve excellent grades would secure a university scholarship through the newly established scheme.
“I encourage you to pass your secondary education with flying colours. Once you achieve that, I will support your tertiary education through this scheme. My core intention is to train the next generation of professionals in the constituency,” he stated.
He further elaborated on the board’s mandate: “To achieve this, I have instituted a seven-member board to manage the scheme. The board has been tasked to identify and offer financial assistance to 400 brilliant but needy students currently pursuing tertiary education. We will support them until they complete their education.”
He assured beneficiaries of a transparent process: “They will oversee the administration of the scholarships, vet applications, investigate and verify your enrolment in a tertiary institution, and then draw the cheque to pay your fees directly into your school’s account. They will also ensure that we provide full scholarships to 100 students currently enrolled in basic schools who are doing exceptionally well but lack financial support.”
The appointed board members include Ishmael Ayettey (former Member of Parliament for the area), Mr. Paul Obli Laryea, Ebenezer Victor Addo, Mr. Andrew Aryee, Mr. Ishmael Nettey, Rev. Lawson, and Madam Esther.
The MP further pledged that he would do his utmost to ensure that beneficiaries who excel at the tertiary level are also given assistance in securing good job opportunities after graduation.
He stressed the critical need to cultivate professionals within the constituency so they can, in turn, use their acquired skills and knowledge to contribute to local development.
Mr. Ashie Kotey expressed his profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for their support of his initiatives.
