Prince Dwomoh, Chief Executive Officer of Let’s Travel Tour, has called for the strict enforcement and enhanced regulation of the travel and tour sector to address the proliferation of unlicensed practitioners.
He asserted that a lack of stringent regulation allows unauthorized individuals to enter the industry, potentially defrauding consumers and subsequently tarnishing the reputation of all licensed and compliant operators.
Mr. Dwomoh advised Ghanaians to always ensure that the travel and tour agency they engage with is properly licensed and regulated to operate.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of a breast cancer awareness exercise organized by his company in Abelemkpe on Friday, October 17, 2025.
He explained the necessity of oversight: “The travel and tour industry involves significant financial transactions, making regulation crucial to ensure that only licensed businesses operate. Some individuals see it as a sector for quick money and thus operate without the requisite authorization. Regulation is absolutely necessary when operating in this industry.”
He continued by urging the public to be vigilant: “I advise Ghanaians to always check if the travel and tour company they intend to engage is licensed. Verify if they possess a license from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and whether they are accredited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
For those of us who are regulated, we face sanctions if we breach any rules. However, those who are unregulated are currently free to operate without accountability.”
Mr Dwomoh also detailed the regulatory compliance process: “Operators are required to renew their license with the GTA annually, which is not an easy undertaking because the authority comes around to inspect our facilities. The regulation process is tedious but essential. My only comment is that the GTA should improve the turnaround time for these checks and balances. But generally, I believe it is beneficial for the sector to adhere to these regulatory processes.”
He stressed the need for the GTA to significantly increase its field checks and visits to travel and tour companies to ensure stricter enforcement of the law and full compliance across all operators.
