Mahama announces Catholic S&T University and regional hospital for Damongo

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will construct a Catholic Science and Technology University and a regional hospital in Damongo in the Savannah Region.

​He disclosed this when the Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Rev. Philip Naameh, paid a courtesy call on him at the Presidency.

​According to President Mahama, initial funding for the proposed university will come from the $30 million grant promised by the Chinese President, Xi Jinping.

He stated that the hospital, after completion, will serve as a teaching facility for the proposed Catholic Science and Technology University.

​He also mentioned that the project will include a Faculty of Medical Sciences to train medical doctors and other allied health professionals.

​He maintained that his government remains committed to revamping Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

​Archbishop Naameh, on his part, raised various educational and social issues affecting the northern sector and made a passionate plea for redress.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; Elvis Afriyie Ankrah of the Office of the President; and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
