The Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Mr. Foh Amoaning, has asserted that Ghanaian politicians are exhibiting a blatant disregard for the public will concerning the anti-LGBTQI Bill, arguing that the prolonged delay constitutes an insult to the electorate.
The private legal practitioner emphasized that sovereignty resides with the people of Ghana, and the overwhelming majority has unequivocally demanded the Bill’s passage without further delay. He contends that Ghanaians elected their President based on the expectation that he would prioritize the nation’s interests over narrow, personal agendas.
Mr. Amoaning expressed deep concern, alleging that certain senior politicians and religious leaders are actively involved in same-sex activities and are consequently inhibiting the legislative process. He specifically alleged that some individuals have accepted bribes, creating significant obstacles to the Bill’s successful passage and presidential assent.
He levied strong criticism against President John Dramani Mahama and his appointees, accusing them of reversing their stance on the matter after assuming power, despite previously leveraging the refusal of former President Akufo-Addo to assent to the Bill for political gain.
A further concern raised was the alleged shift in academic curricula. Mr. Amoaning stated that one reason for the lack of urgency surrounding the Bill is that some institutions of higher learning have begun integrating same-sex relationship topics into their educational programs.
“Let me give one example to demonstrate that our children are being polluted,” he stated. “Are you aware that since last year the University of Ghana has changed its statutes and introduced transgenderism, LGBT and its related topics, and is teaching our children about it? We have written to the Vice-Chancellor regarding this issue, and yet she has refused us the opportunity for engagement. She is a professor and a Christian, yet she presides over this evil. If Ghanaians do not collectively rise up and demand the signing of this bill, it will not be signed. We must mount pressure on the government to act.”
Speaking on Rainbow Radio with host Kwabena Agyapong, Mr. Amoaning delivered a stark ultimatum: “If Ghanaians do not exert pressure on our politicians to pass this bill and for the President to assent to it, it simply will not happen. This is the truth we cannot afford to ignore.” He concluded that the resistance stems from one of two possibilities: either politicians, including Members of Parliament, have accepted financial inducements or are personally engaged in same-sex acts, and are therefore actively obstructing the Bill.
Regarding international pressure, Mr. Amoaning maintained that Ghana must not be intimidated by external threats. “Ghana will not compromise its values because of foreign aid or support. We are a sovereign nation and cannot permit any foreign country to dictate our domestic policy. We need to educate our children on proper sexual and human values across all levels of education, not be teaching them about same-sex relationships.”
He also disclosed that the University of Cape Coast is allegedly planning to introduce a similar course to that of the University of Ghana.
