The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has declared that any chief found engaging the services of land guards to protect lands under their care will be destooled.
He issued the warning on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, at the Asantehene’s palace.
The respected traditional ruler noted that the use of land guards is unlawful and alien to the traditional governance system of Asanteman.
He advised individuals or chiefs involved in land disputes to bring their concerns before the Manhyia Palace for resolution instead of using land guards.
The Asantehene stressed that such acts not only breach traditional authority but also undermine public safety and peace in the region.
“Chiefs have no authority to hire armed individuals or landguards to protect lands entrusted to them upon their enstoolment. Using land guards to employ guns and harm others is strictly forbidden.
Instead, chiefs are instructed to bring any land disputes before him for amicable resolution and peace.”
