A Circuit Court in Cape Coast has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Eric Amoah, to 16 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to sodomising a 7-year-old boy in Mankesim.
The convict was arrested after he was caught sodomising the victim in the Nananom suburb of Mankesim, located in the Mfanteman Municipality.
He was sentenced on Thursday, November 6, 2025, by the court, which was presided over by Her Honour Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo.
Ameoah was arrested on November 3, 2025, and detained for investigation.
Prosecutor Chief Inspector Siman Sartey presented the evidence to the court, confirming that the suspect, Eric Amoah, was formally charged with defilement.
The convict entered a guilty plea on his own accord, leading to the immediate imposition of the 16-year sentence in accordance with Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The law defines defilement as natural or unnatural carnal knowledge of a child under 16 years of age—it is a first-degree felony that carries a minimum prison term of not less than seven years and a maximum of not more than 25 years.
The boy has since been sent to the Saltpond Municipal Hospital, where he is responding to treatment.
