I was not getting radio airplay, interviews, or studio access as an urban gospel musician – Raf Able

Urban gospel musician Raf Able has opened up about the significant challenges he has faced throughout his decade-long career. The artist admitted that achieving a breakthrough in the competitive music industry has been extremely difficult.

Speaking in an interview with Eddie Ray, host of the mid-morning show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated, “It has been exactly ten years since I started this, but it has not been an easy journey.” He affirmed that his current level of recognition was the result of a protracted struggle.

Able vividly recounted the hurdles of his early years, specifically the lack of radio play and interviews.

“It was very difficult for me. Financing the recording of my songs was tough. Finding a studio to record was a challenge. I couldn’t get the opportunity to go on radio or have my work broadcast. The first time my song was played on the radio, I was like, ‘WOW!’ It felt completely new and fresh to me. Producing music videos also presented a major challenge. It has been very difficult from day one.”

Despite the obstacles, Raf Able indicated his consistent commitment to releasing quality songs annually as a strategy to establish his presence in the industry. He credited the grace of God for seeing him through these arduous times.

He also revealed that his career initially began in secular music, influenced by his community. However, a deepening connection with his faith prompted his decision to transition from secular to gospel music.

He concluded by stressing that while hard work is essential, ultimate success and the ability to thrive come through the grace of God and the wisdom He provides.

The Praise Achievement Awards is renowned as one of the most credible platforms honouring gospel and inspirational music across Africa.

Raf secured nominations in the following categories: New Artiste of the Year, Urban Gospel Song of the Year, Urban Gospel Artiste of the Year, and Best Collaboration of the Year.
