The government has approved a 9% salary raise for all public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the fiscal year 2026.
The National Tripartite Committee has also agreed to a 9 percent upward adjustment in the national daily minimum wage, raising it from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77, effective January 1 to December 31, 2026.
These approvals were formalized in an agreement signed on November 9, 2025, by the government (represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Organised Labour.
Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson commended Organised Labour, stating the increment aligns with economic recovery efforts.
He noted that key economic indicators have declined, adding: “The country has gone through difficult times with high inflation and interest rates, but today both indicators have declined. The government is working to further reduce inflation from the current 8 percent to ease the burden on Ghanaians.”
Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, praised the constructive dialogue, calling the agreement “a reflection of government’s dedication to labour harmony and economic resilience.
” The Chief Executive of the FWSC, Dr. George Smith-Graham, also thanked Organised Labour for their support in the country’s recovery.
TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah acknowledged workers’ sacrifices in accepting the 9 percent increase. He urged the government to honor all negotiation commitments and:
“…avoid introducing new taxes or tariff hikes that could offset the benefits.”
