The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has said the cost of spare parts is extremely expensive.
Abass Imoro, Industrial Relations Officer for the GPRTU, lamented that the cost of spare parts was negatively impacting their business.
He has therefore stated that they expect that taxes, duties, and other costs of importation will be reduced so that spare parts dealers would also reduce their prices.
Speaking ahead of the 2026 budget presentation, which is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2025, he said GPRTU was hoping that the cost of fuel would also be reduced.
When asked if they were consulted before the budget was presented, he said, “GPRTU was not consulted. But our expectation is that taxes on spare parts — which are making it difficult for traders to reduce prices— would be reduced. We are aware authorities are putting in place measures to reduce taxes and provide relief to Ghanaians, but for GPRTU, our focus is on spare parts, lubricants, and other items we buy. We are also hoping that the cost of fuel will reduce further. That will have a direct effect on everyone.”
