The Presidential Envoy responsible for interfaith and ecumenical bodies, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has expressed concerns over what he describes as excessive indiscipline within the prophetic ministry and prophecies of doom.
He noted that while the prophetic ministry and prophecies are integral to the Christian faith, some individuals are abusing these through manipulation and extortion.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the Thanksgiving service of the maiden Ecumenical Convention organised by the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) on Sunday, November 16, 2025, he emphasised that prophets in Ghana must begin prophesying about the nation’s prosperity.
He asserted that Ghana can join the ranks of nations that have flourished financially, socially, and spiritually.
He stated that we believe in prophecy and the prophetic ministry, acknowledging it as one of the highest ministries that demands respect.
However, he also stressed that prophecy must be exercised within the context of scripture.
The Special Envoy noted that while prophets may foresee disasters and terrible visions, they should also utilise their offices to declare positive outcomes for Ghana. “Ghana can emulate the success of Malaysia, South Korea, or Singapore,” he added, highlighting that Ghana had the highest GDP among these countries at the time of independence.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah argued that the country has the potential to flourish, citing 1st Kings 18:45-46 in support of his assertion.
He expressed confidence that under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, the country is experiencing a turnaround.
He acknowledged that while progress has been made, the economy is still in the process of recovery, with inflation decreasing drastically, the cedi stabilising, and investors showing interest, which he described as a sign of abundant grace.
He was emphatic that Ghana will eventually turn the corner and experience progress.
He added that the government needs the prayers, humility and courage of the Christian community.
“Ghana needs a praying church now more than ever before,” he appealed, adding that the church must remain united.
