Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has rubbish claims tying him to alleged extortion, characterising the reports as untrue and a product of social media malice.
Addressing journalists at his Accra residence during a visit by cultural troupes from Winneba, the Effutu MP stated that he has executed his responsibilities as Minority Leader with high regard for the history and dignity of the position.
He highlighted that he occupies a seat previously held by prominent statesmen of Ghana’s political tradition, including J.B. Danquah, adding that the NPP leadership entrusted him with heading the caucus—a duty he takes seriously.
“I believe I have discharged my duty as Minority Leader with all the dignity that must go with the office,” he said, noting that although he is not infallible, he avoids reckless conduct.
Afenyo-Markin refuted assertions that audio or video evidence exists showing him involved in wrongdoing.
“Nobody has any video of me doing anything and I say so on authority. Nobody has any audio of me doing anything to embarrass myself, my family and the party. There’s nothing like that anywhere,” he stressed.
He acknowledged that as a politician, such accusations are expected in the digital age, confirming he has initiated legal proceedings to defend his integrity.
