Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam, Member of Parliament for Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency, has commended the legacy of the Nana Addo/Bawumia-led government, stating that the current government’s success is built on the solid foundation laid by the previous administration.
Speaking in Parliament during the 2026 Budget Statement debate, Agyinsam highlighted the achievements of the previous government, crediting it for creating a stable economic environment that has enabled the current government to make progress.
Agyinsam’s comments suggest that the current government’s success is not solely its own making but rather a result of the groundwork laid by the previous administration.
He emphasised that the Nana Addo/Bawumia-led government had set the stage for the current progress, and the current government is reaping the benefits of those efforts.
Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam questioned the government’s allocation to the Ministry of Trade, describing it as “woefully inadequate”.
He again highlighted that the ministry was allocated 844, with compensation of 148 and goods and services of 25 million, but only 1.6 million was released.
Agyinsam expressed concerns about the government’s budget credibility, citing the example of the garment industry, where 200 million has been allocated despite the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) being suspended.
He questioned the feasibility of the government’s job creation promises, noting that situating an industry takes time and the government’s plans are unrealistic.
The MP added that the government’s lack of resources for the Ministry of Trade is shameful and will hinder the country’s development.
