Ghana Health Service has officially received 486 new motorcycles procured through UNOPS with funding support from the Global Fund, marking a major boost to the logistical capacity of CHPS zones and sub-districts across 10 major regions in the country.

The handover forms part of the Sub-District Strengthening Initiative (SDSI) aimed at improving primary healthcare delivery in high-burden districts.

The motorcycles were presented by Ms Linda Agbesi, Acting Head of Office, UNOPS Ghana, who reaffirmed her institution’s commitment to strengthening national health systems.

Speaking on behalf of the Ag. Director-General, the Ag. Deputy Director-General Dr Caroline Reindorf-Amissah emphasised that investments under the Resilient Systems for Sustainable Health (RSSH) framework are critical to advancing universal health coverage.

She noted that the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) remains Ghana’s most innovative model for delivering essential services at the community level, and the deployment of motorcycles will significantly enhance home visits, community outreach, emergency referrals, and integrated HIV, TB, and malaria interventions.

Dr Reindorf-Amissah further highlighted that additional essential medical equipment ranging from diagnostic tools to obstetric sets and infection prevention supplies will also reinforce CHPS operations, stressing that these interventions directly address long-standing functionality gaps and will support routine preventive and curative services across beneficiary regions.

Receiving the motorbikes on behalf of the regions, Dr Robert Amesiya, Ag. The Regional Director of Health Services for Greater Accra expressed appreciation for the support and pledged effective deployment and utilisation.

Also present at the ceremony were the Director of PPMED, Dr Samuel Boakye Boateng, and officials from the GHS Headquarters, Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate and UNOPS Ghana.
