The Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr. Thomas Anaba, has made a passionate appeal to all factions in the long-running Bawku conflict to accept the final ruling of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
His remarks come after the traditional ruler held the final mediation on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.
He lamented that the long-standing dispute has not only disrupted activities in the area but also created economic hardship and led to the deaths of several people.
The lawmaker opined that peace was the only way out to restore Bawku to its previous state and open it up for development.
Dr. Anaba stressed the need for the various factions to accept the outcome with goodwill and commit themselves fully to restoring calm in the area.
“There is nothing more to desire than peace in Bawku. We have spent years and countless resources, lost precious lives, and seen businesses collapse because of this conflict,” he said.
“President Nana Akufo-Addo entrusted the matter to the Asantehene, and President John Mahama also maintained confidence in his ability to resolve it. He has handled the process gently and methodically, bringing us to this final stage.”
“What we hope for is that his decision will usher in peace, the government will adopt his recommendations, and all parties will respect their implementation in full. We are one people, after all. There are no real divisions—only a misunderstanding over ownership that has escalated for far too long.”
