Former Ghanaian footballer Dan Owusu has expressed his desire for the Black Stars of Ghana to be drawn into a favourable group for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
He notes that there are no ‘small’ teams or underdogs in the tournament.
Owusu emphasizes the importance of the team performing optimally to make a positive impact and make the country proud.
In an interview with Andrews Kwabena Gyasi, also known as Fantastic KG, on Rainbow Sports, he stated his preference for Ghana to be grouped with Canada, Panama, and Switzerland.
He acknowledged that teams like the United States, Croatia, Japan, and others are formidable opponents that will pose a significant challenge in the group stages.
Dan Owusu stressed the need for the management team, particularly the coach, to adequately prepare the team with the aim of making a positive impact at the tournament.
He indicated that Ghana met “very cheap” teams during the qualifying games, which made it easier to secure a slot in the World Cup.
In his opinion, if they had met very formidable teams, they would not have qualified.
He has therefore advised the team, particularly the players, to prepare well and listen to instructions from the coach if they want to make a mark.
Dan Owusu added that there are uncertainties in football, but with solid preparation, Ghana can make a mark on the world stage.
