The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of demonstrating a lack of principle and engaging in hypocrisy regarding the recent developments concerning the Kpandai constituency seat, following a rerun order by the Tamale High Court.
Mahdi Jibril, Deputy Director of Elections and ICT for the NDC, stated that the NPP’s actions are contradictory.
He noted that while the party publicly protests the High Court’s decision to order a rerun and the subsequent letter from the Clerk of Parliament declaring the seat vacant, its members are actively campaigning on the ground.
Mr. Jibril disclosed that key members of the NPP, including its General Secretary, are currently in the constituency campaigning to secure the re-election of their candidate, Matthew Nyindam, whose seat was declared vacant.
He argued that this dual approach is characteristic of “unprincipled and hypocritical individuals parading as politicians” who seek power from the Ghanaian electorate.
Speaking in an interview on the Frontline show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Jibril asserted that the NPP has a history of deceiving the public to serve its own parochial interests.
Mahdi Jibril stressed that the NDC remains unconcerned by the NPP’s perceived hypocrisy, expressing confidence in its ability to win the seat in the upcoming rerun.
He added that the NDC’s strong performance record will undoubtedly convince the constituents in the Kpandai constituency to vote for the party during the rerun.
He pointed out the contradiction between the NPP’s public stance—alleging judicial bias and filing cases to halt the rerun process—and their active campaign efforts on the ground in Kpandai.
”Kwabena, are you aware that the NPP is currently campaigning in the constituency? As I speak with you, the General Secretary of the party and his team are in the constituency. These individuals lack principle. This is the kind of leadership we are dealing with,” he stated.
