We’ll win the Kpandai constituency rerun; no intimidation or manipulation will take the seat from us – NPP

December 15, 2025
KODUA

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has firmly declared that the party will contest and secure victory in the upcoming parliamentary rerun election in the Kpandai constituency, despite alleging “machinations and intimidation” from the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Mr Kodua maintained that the NPP had genuinely won the main election held in December 2024.

He accused the NDC’s candidate of attempting to undermine the democratic process and illegally claim the seat, capitalising on the NDC’s position as the ruling party.

He further alleged that following the declaration of the initial results, the NDC candidate threatened to utilise the government’s machinery to overturn the outcome and seize the constituency seat.

Commenting on the judicial process, Mr Kodua suggested that the Tamale High Court’s order for a rerun was a tactic designed to “deprive them and the constituency of their duly chosen MP.”

Despite this sentiment, he affirmed the NPP’s commitment, stating, “The NPP would participate in the Kpandai rerun, irrespective of the court’s final ruling.”

The General Secretary elaborated on the party’s confidence, highlighting the strength of their initial performance.

”The outcome of the 2024 elections was clear. The constituents voted massively for Mathew Nyindam, our candidate. The NDC themselves knew they had lost, and our candidate was the validly elected MP. The chiefs and people knew we had won,” he stressed.

Mr Kodua noted the historical significance of the win: “For the first time in the constituency, the NPP, which had not won in the area before, secured both the parliamentary and presidential vote in the constituency.”

He then alleged that the NDC candidate resorted to threatening to “snatch the seat from us by using incumbency advantage by bringing the people fertilisers and [offering to] repair their deplorable roads.”

In a sharp critique, Mr Kodua questioned the NDC’s focus, suggesting they were pursuing the Kpandai seat despite an existing, but ineffective, supermajority in Parliament.

”The NDC has a majority of 189, but they don’t come to the House for business,” he argued. He further claimed their Members of Parliament were “hungrier and struggling more than the opposition MPs… They go to Parliament in Bolt because they don’t have their own vehicles.”

”I want to stress that the NPP will campaign, contest, and win the rerun, and there is nothing the NDC can do about it. No amount of manipulation or intimidation will stop us from winning,” he declared.
