Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Monday, December 15, 2025, commissioned the fourth production line of Softcare FM Manufacturing Limited.

The project, she stated, increases Ghana’s supply of locally made sanitary pads and creates more jobs.

According to her, this is a clear demonstration of what deliberate policy direction, private sector confidence, and local manufacturing can achieve when aligned with national priorities.

She indicated that under the leadership of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, the government is determined to transform the economy by focusing on import substitution, industrial manufacturing, and value addition.

She further explained that the partnership with the Sunda Group and Softcare reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s improving economic stability and environment.

The Vice President asserted that the fourth production line by the company boosts domestic supply and positions Softcare to take advantage of export opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

She argued that Africa must move beyond exporting raw materials, whether cocoa, oil, or minerals.

“The future lies in value addition, local production, and industries that create jobs and retain wealth within our economies.

Beyond its industrial impact, this project speaks directly to human dignity and social equity. Menstrual hygiene remains a critical issue, as far too many girls continue to rely on improvised or substandard products. The sight of schoolgirls receiving locally manufactured sanitary pads, proudly branded “Made in Ghana”, is a reminder of what inclusive development looks like in practice.”

She stated that in line with this commitment, the 2026 Budget has allocated GHS 292.4 million for the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative, targeting female students across the nation.

“This intervention aims to combat period poverty, reduce absenteeism, and support girls’ education. As the President has directed, all sanitary pads under this initiative will be manufactured in Ghana.”

She commends the management and workers of Softcare FM for their contribution to Ghana’s health, education, and industrial progress.

The Vice President also expressed her pleasure in inspecting the new production line, which produces approximately 1,100 packs per minute, showcasing world-class efficiency and innovation.
