Ms Beatrice Sewor, a senior nursing officer at St Joseph Catholic Hospital in Nkwanta South, Oti, has been adjudged National Best Nurse 2025 at the 6th GRNMA Annual National Awards & Dinner Night held on Friday, December 12th, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

Ms Sewor has served at St Joseph Catholic Hospital for nine years and currently works as a critical care nurse.

Between 2022 and 2024, the facility operated under difficult conditions linked to insecurity in the area, which led to the displacement of about 14 per cent of staff and placed additional strain on emergency and inpatient services.

In response to these challenges, Ms Sewor initiated a proposal to hospital management that led to the formation of an emergency response team, aimed at improving the management of emergency and conflict-related cases.

Her leadership also contributed to the establishment of a recovery ward at the facility. Following this intervention, the hospital recorded zero maternal mortality between 2024 and 2025, alongside improvements in overall patient management and reductions in inpatient mortalities.

Delivered within a conflict-affected setting, Ms Sewor’s work highlights the importance of nurse-led leadership in sustaining quality care under challenging conditions.

Ms Sewor expressed her appreciation to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the management and staff of St Joseph Catholic Hospital, and the surrounding community for the opportunity to serve.

She noted that the recognition would further motivate her to continue working towards equitable access to quality healthcare, particularly for patients in rural and underserved areas.

As part of her award, Ms Sewor received the ultimate prize of a brand-new Toyota Belta.

The GRNMA Annual National Awards & Dinner Night, now in its sixth edition, recognises outstanding professional service, innovation, and leadership in nursing and midwifery practice.

The 2025 ceremony brought together nurses and midwives from all 10 administrative regions, along with health sector stakeholders, to honour individuals whose work has demonstrated measurable impact on healthcare delivery in Ghana.
