Kwesi Botchway Jr, a Special Aide to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted claims by Kennedy Agyapong suggesting that Ghanaians are eager to vote for him as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate in the next general election.
He described these assertions as unfounded, labelling them a product of “a figment of imagination” shared only by a small circle of Agyapong’s supporters.
While the lawyer acknowledged Agyapong’s status as a devoted party member and a successful entrepreneur, he argued that these achievements do not translate to presidential suitability.
“Let me clear this propaganda made by Kennedy Agyapong,” Botchway stated during an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5. “He is going around telling delegates that Ghanaians are willing to vote massively for the NPP in 2028 with him as the candidate. That is totally false. Ghanaians have not made such remarks; these claims are only being made by his 50 supporters.”
He further emphasised that while the public admires Agyapong’s ability to create jobs through his various businesses, they do not see him as the right fit for the Republic’s highest office.
“I have not heard anyone say such a thing. I admire Kennedy Agyapong; he is a member of the NPP in good standing. However, he lacks the necessary skills to assume the role of President of Ghana. Ghanaians believe you are good at establishing businesses, so concentrate on that, create jobs, and forget about being president.”
He stated categorically that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the NPP’s strongest candidate and the only one capable of securing victory for the party in the 2028 elections.
