The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that it will continue the collection of tolls and fees through Christmas and New Year.
It has therefore informed the general public, especially traders, transport operators and market users, that it will continue the collection of approved tolls and fees throughout the Christmas and New Year festivities, including Saturdays and Sundays.
The AMA stated that this forms part of efforts to sustain essential city services during the peak season.
In addition, the Assembly has also activated its 24-hour sanitation and security operations during the period.
This is to support continuous waste evacuation, routine clean-ups, rapid response to sanitation incidents, and enforcement support at key public spaces, markets, transport terminals and major corridors as residents and visitors celebrate the festive season.
“The decision is informed by the need to match increased commercial and social activity during the season with uninterrupted services, particularly in sanitation and public safety.”
The Assembly urges traders, transport operators, and the public to comply with AMA regulations, including paying daily tolls for commercial vehicles and lorry park fees and adhering to tenancy arrangements in public markets as outlined in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Bye-laws, 2017.
It added, “The AMA therefore encourages all fee-paying members of the public to insist on official receipts/tickets for all payments and to report any unauthorised collections to the appropriate Assembly offices.
The Assembly appeals to the public to cooperate with authorised AMA officers and partner agencies and to support city cleanliness by using approved waste disposal points and avoiding practices that contribute to choked drains and flooding.”
