Airstrikes in Nigeria: Gov’t Confirms Deepening Strategic Security Alliance with U.S. and International Partners

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated that it is strengthening its security alliance with the United States and other international partners, following the air strikes that recently targeted terrorist strongholds across the country’s Northwest region.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government described the ongoing operations as part of a “structured security cooperation” aimed at dismantling the persistent threat of violent extremism that has long plagued the region.

According to the ministry, the collaboration with Washington and other global allies is built on a foundation of shared intelligence and strategic coordination.

It said the collaboration is aimed at weakening the operational capacity of insurgent groups while strictly adhering to international law and respecting Nigeria’s national sovereignty.

The cooperation is built upon several critical pillars of engagement.

This includes a robust exchange of intelligence through the real-time sharing of data to track insurgent movements, as well as significant logistical support aimed at enhancing the technical capabilities of the Nigerian military. Furthermore, both nations are engaged in financial disruption efforts, working in a collaborative push to choke off the funding and supply chains that fuel terrorist networks.

”This cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law and shared commitments to regional and global security,” the Ministry stated.

Addressing concerns regarding the impact of military action on local populations, the Federal Government emphasised that the “primacy of protecting civilian lives” remains the guiding principle of all counter-terrorism manoeuvres.

It added, ”Terrorist violence in any form—whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities—remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” the statement read, highlighting a commitment to safeguarding citizens regardless of faith or ethnicity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further pledged to maintain transparency throughout these operations, promising to keep the public informed through official channels as the security situation evolves.
