United States President Donald Trump has announced that newly formed interim authorities in Venezuela will transfer between 30 and 50 million barrels of crude oil to the United States.
He made the announcement, via a Truth Social post, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
It marks the first major economic development following the recent U.S. military operation that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
President Donald Trump indicated that the shipment consists of “high-quality, sanctioned oil” that will be transported directly to American docks.
The quantity is 30 to 50 million barrels and is expected to be moved by storage ships to U.S. unloading docks.
He has directed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to carry out the plan immediately.
President Trump stated that the proceeds from selling this oil at market price will be “controlled by me.”
He asserted that this direct oversight is necessary to ensure the funds benefit the citizens of both Venezuela and the United States.
”We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies… go in, spend billions of dollars, and fix the badly broken infrastructure,” Trump said earlier this week, framing the move as a way to “rebuild” a nation he described as being in economic ruin.
