The Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency, Ashie Nii Kotey, recently organized a “triple treat” celebration for the aged within his constituency.
The event, which took place on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Jubilee Pool in Accra, featured a New Year’s party, an awards ceremony, and a comprehensive health screening for senior citizens.

The ceremony served as a platform to recognize the dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment of 40 individuals drawn from various wards of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In appreciation of their long-standing service to the party, the lawmaker presented the awardees with chest freezers, high-quality fabrics, and other essential items.

Hon. Kotey explained that the freezer donations were specifically intended to help the recipients establish small businesses to generate personal income.
During his address, the lawmaker explained that the event was a fulfillment of his campaign pledge to honour the sacrifices of loyal party members.

He noted that these individuals had remained steadfast for years, and he felt it was essential to show appreciation for their longevity.
He further announced that this recognition ceremony would now be held every six months to ensure that those who dedicate their lives to political service are appreciated as an example for the younger generation.

The health screening component of the event offered participants the opportunity to undergo free eye examinations and general medical check-ups conducted by health professionals.
Beyond the medical care, the MP noted that the gathering was a vital opportunity to feast with the elderly and celebrate the arrival of the New Year together.

In addition to the festivities, Hon. Kotey outlined several key developmental projects planned for the constituency.
Working in partnership with the Mayor of Accra, Mr. Kpakpo Allotey, the MP has already cut sod for the rehabilitation of the Makola Clinic and the repair of deplorable roads at Rawlings Park.

He has also engaged the contractor for the Salaga Market to return to the site and is overseeing efforts to rehabilitate the London Market.
Furthermore, he assured constituents that the Agbogbloshie Yam Market would be redeveloped into a 24-hour market and that plans are underway to fix roads within the Agbogbloshie enclave and address the constituency’s water challenges.

The MP urged the people to support the government’s efforts as President John Dramani Mahama works to reset the country.
The Mayor of Accra, Honourable Kpakpo Allotey commended the MP for the initiative, describing the ceremony as unprecedented.

He pledged his full support for the outlined projects and mentioned that the Sempe School, which had fallen into disrepair, is currently being redeveloped.
Former Member of Parliament for the area, Jonathan Nii Tackie Kommey, also attended the event and called on constituents to support and pray for the MP to ensure the continuation of his work.

Some of the participants expressed their deep gratitude to Hon. Kotey, describing the day as a historic and unprecedented gesture of appreciation for the aged.
