Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency, Hon. Ashie Kotey, has officially announced the resumption of construction at the Salaga Market.
During an event held on Friday, January 9, 2026, the MP confirmed that the contractor and his team have returned to the site to continue the project from where it had previously stalled.
He emphasised that once the facility is completed, it will provide a structured environment for traders who are currently selling along the streets, allowing for their immediate relocation.
The completion of the Salaga Market marks only the beginning of a broader redevelopment agenda.
Mr. Kotey revealed that the London Market is the next major project scheduled for a total overhaul.
Furthermore, he outlined plans to transform the Agbogloshie Yam Market into a “24-hour economy” hub, ensuring that the public can purchase yams and other essential goods at any hour of the day.
Infrastructure improvements also extend to the local transport network, with repair works targeted for the deplorable roads within the Agbogloshie Market and the UTC area.
In collaboration with the Mayor of Accra, Mr. Kpakpo Allotey, the MP recently cut the sod for the rehabilitation of the Makola Clinic. On the educational front, the Sempe School is set to receive a significant facelift, while the school at Private Odartey Lamptey—which is currently in a state of disrepair—has already been handed over to contractors for complete redevelopment.
To support the youth, Mr. Kotey has launched a comprehensive scholarship scheme that currently supports 500 brilliant but needy students in their pursuit of tertiary education.
He expressed his vision of cultivating a new generation of doctors, lawyers, and engineers who will eventually return to serve the constituency in their respective professional capacities.
Additionally, the MP pledged to address the persistent water challenges in the area to ensure that every resident has access to clean drinking water.
These announcements were made during a ceremony organized to honour 40 elderly individuals for their loyal service to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) across various wards.
The event, which included a health screening, is intended to become a recurring celebration held every five to six months.
Addressing his constituents, Mr. Kotey reaffirmed his mandate by stating, “You did not vote for us to sit back with folded arms; you voted for us to reset the country. We commend President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to transforming both this nation and this constituency.”
He contrasted his current efforts with the previous administration, questioning the impact of their eight-year tenure and asserting his unwavering commitment to delivering on his campaign promises.
