The Member of Parliament for Hemang Lower Denkyira, Mr Lawrence Agyinsam, has announced his decision not to support former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the January 31 presidential primary.
According to him, he took this decision because former President Akufo-Addo, who had an influence on him and was the reason he supported Dr Bawumia, has also withdrawn his support for the man once regarded as an ‘economic wizard’.
The lawmaker says he now supports Dr Bawumia’s closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong.
He announced this at a public event where he interacted with party supporters in his constituency.
He told them that he supported Dr Bawumia because of Akufo-Addo’s influence on him, but now that the former president is no longer supporting Dr Bawumia, he has decided to withdraw his support.
He believes Dr Bawumia does not have what it takes to win the 2024 elections; hence, the need for them to vote massively for Kennedy Agyapong.
“I was once a strong supporter of Dr Bawumia, but I left his side due to four reasons. One of the main reasons I left his campaign was due to the influence former President Akufo-Addo had on me, but as we speak, Akufo-Addo is now supporting Bawumia, and so I have also decided to leave his side. I now support Kennedy Agyapong. Kennedy Agyapong is the one candidate who has what it takes to win the 2028 elections.”
