The Central Regional Health Directorate has strongly condemned the violent mob attack that occurred at the Akoti Health Centre on Sunday, January 11.
The incident commenced when two individuals, who were assaulted in Assin Wurakese, were rushed to the facility for emergency treatment.
Shortly thereafter, the alleged assailant arrived at the health centre seeking medical attention, triggering a tense confrontation.
A group of armed individuals stormed the premises, bypassing health workers and patients, and violently attacked the suspect within the clinical environment.
This security breach caused widespread panic among staff and visitors, compromising the safety of personnel and the integrity of the medical facility.
In a statement signed by the Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Mrs. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, the Directorate confirmed engagement with the Ghana Police Service and demanded the immediate identification and arrest of all individuals involved.
The Directorate also requested increased police visibility and permanent security support at the Akoti Health Centre to prevent future incidents. Dr. Biritwum-Nyarko emphasized that medical facilities must remain neutral and protected spaces focused solely on saving lives, noting that vigilantism endangers lives and undermines health worker confidence, potentially disrupting essential services.
