Abdull Razak, spokesperson for Hajia Amina Adam—the widow of the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East—has clarified that the widow did not initially seek to run in the upcoming by-election.
Instead, he explained that she was approached by several Assembly members within the constituency who appealed to her to contest the seat.
According to Razak, eight out of the eleven Assembly members visited Hajia Amina Adam to urge her to run.
He described her as a dedicated individual who played a vital role in supporting her late husband’s efforts to transform the constituency.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Razak stated: “It is true that the widow of the late MP will be contesting, but let me correct a misconception: She was not the one who initially declared her intention. A group of Assembly members convinced her to run. She is a hardworking woman who has supported the Assembly and been instrumental in development projects, even without holding office. That is why we want her to contest.”

Razak further revealed that, in addition to the Assembly members, several constituency executives—led by the Constituency Chairman—also visited her to encourage her candidacy.
He informed host Kwabena Agyapong that the costs associated with the primary, including the filing fees, would be covered by the group supporting her.
Following these appeals, the widow has officially submitted her letter of intent to the party.
“We have already picked up her nomination forms for her,” Razak said. “When we visited as Assembly members, we promised that if she accepted, we would handle the forms and the fees. We have fulfilled that pledge and will submit the forms on her behalf on Tuesday, January 26, 2026.”
Razak explained that the group will manage the bulk of the campaigning on her behalf. This arrangement allows her to respect Islamic widowhood rites while still participating in the electoral process.
