Bawumia is no threat because he lacks credibility and competence, Majority declares; Minority disagrees

February 3, 2026
Bawumia-sad

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has stated categorically that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will defeat the newly elected presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party any day in any election.

He first congratulated Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, but said he is not a threat to the NDC.

Mocking the Minority caucus, he joined them in wearing white to celebrate their victory because he was optimistic that the NDC will defeat him.

“Mr Speaker, if you observed, my friends on the side were all in white today to celebrate the victory. “I joined them to white to celebrate the victory, but the reason why I have won white to celebrate the victory is because the Bawumia that I know, NDC, beat him anytime in the day,” he said amidst wild cheers from the side of the Majority Caucus.

He stated that Ghanaians do not forget because the election of Dr Bawumia is not a new beginning but a repackaging of the same administration, the same economic ideas and the same record that pushed this nation to the edge.

“You cannot rewrite recent history, and you cannot rebrand responsibility away. Ghanaians will judge not by new faces or fine words but by lived experience, credibility and results. The lawmaker said Ghanaians lived the experience of Dr Bawumia as a vice president and the credibility of the NPP under Dr Bawumia and the results of the Bawumia economic management.”

He declared that the new government has laid the foundation of recovery, and the responsibility is to consolidate these gains and accelerate Ghana’s journey towards sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

For his part, the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin pledged full support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, indicating that he is the one that will lead the NPP into the future.

He said this side has assured him that they will work with him and stand shoulder to shoulder with him to deliver on his vision for the party and Ghana so they will win the 2028 elections.

Afenyo-Markin noted that their conversation with the flagbearer has energised them to regain the trust of Ghanaians and return to power to rebuild and restore Ghana under a Bawumia presidency.
