If Dr Bawumia fails, it is we who have failed—so let us work for him and for the NPP — Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has warned that disunity remains the greatest threat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as a “slow poison” that has repeatedly cost the party victory.

Speaking on Monday, February 3, 2026, in Effutu, he said, “When we talk about unity, the last two weeks should remind us of the harsh but clear lessons of disunity.”

He recalled that during the Third Republic, “our tradition came divided into the UNC and PFP, and the result was that power was taken from us,” adding that unity could have delivered “a one-touch victory”.

He also pointed to defeats in 1992, 1996, and 2012, noting, “Anytime factions spoke louder than unity, we lost—no matter how noble our message.”

In contrast, he said the party’s success between 2004 and 2016 came because “we stood together behind one leader, one message, and one direction.”

Afenyo-Markin stressed, “Unity is the blood of our party. We must not allow the 2024 election experience to repeat itself.” He concluded by urging members to support the party’s flagbearer, saying, “If Dr Bawumia fails, it is we who have failed—so let us work for him and for the NPP.”
