Nana Bonsu, a prominent political commentator, has issued a direct appeal to the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association to rescind its decision to embark on strike action.
Instead, he is urging the association to find common ground with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) regarding the implementation of new tax measures.
Bonsu suggested that the traders should prioritize dialogue with the Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong.
He noted that the Commissioner-General has demonstrated a keen interest in ensuring the holistic success of Ghanaian businesses.
He asserted that since the current government took office, it has rolled out several tax measures aimed at enhancing tax collection efficiency, expanding and widening the tax net and Ensuring voluntary compliance among citizens and businesses.
To achieve these objectives, Bonsu stated that the Commissioner-General has demonstrated consistent competence and diligence.
He highlighted that the official has established a strong working relationship with various business sectors over the years, making him the ideal person for the Spare Parts Dealers to engage with.
Direct Quote: Nana Bonsu on the Best Way Forward
“I have always maintained that the new GRA boss is an exceptional individual, and I will admonish the Spare Parts Dealers Association to engage with him and raise any concerns they have so the GRA will deal with them. Embarking on a strike action is not the solution. Additionally, this government, since it took over office, has reduced a number of taxes or scrapped some taxes.”
“The GRA boss has opened his doors to traders, and so they have to capitalize on that and engage him. They may have concerns, but what they should understand is that we also need taxes to develop the country. We cannot run this country without taxes. We need hospitals and other developmental projects, and it is through taxes we can have them done. So let’s collectively engage and find solutions. The GRA boss is quick to respond to issues, and so the Spare Parts dealers must engage him.”
