Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has been formally charged by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) with publishing false news, according to his legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The charge pertains to allegations made by Nkansah regarding an individual who purportedly paid money to secure a government-funded scholarship for overseas studies.

Nkansah’s assertions, made during an interview on Sompa 106.5 FM, prompted President John Dramani Mahama to direct the NIB to investigate the claims.

Following a search of Nkansah’s residence, NIB officials invited him to assist with enquiries.

The Presidency had noted that Nkansah’s claims garnered significant public attention after the interview circulated widely across various media platforms, as stated in a release dated February 3, 2026, signed by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President.

Items found at his residence are five (5) scholarship award letters and one (1) “no objection” letter on Ghana Scholarship Secretariat (GSS) letterhead reportedly signed by the former Registrar, Dr Kingsley Agyeman, addressed to various universities in the UK; four (4) Affidavit of Financial Support with Dependents Forms from the University of Memphis, USA, endorsed by former Deputy Dir. of Admin., Joseph Essah, GSS; and four (4) Bond Forms from GSS.

Additionally, amendments to the scholarship letter from Micheal Nkansah were also found, and they are

26/11/2024 – 3 award letters

17/12/2024 – 1 Award Letter

8/10/2924 – 1 award letter

31/12/2024 – No objection letter
