Cocoa farmers from Ghana’s Western North Region have stormed on the COCOBOD headquarters in Accra, demanding an immediate reversal of the recent reduction in the price per bag of cocoa.

Approximately 45 farmers, bearing placards with various inscriptions, expressed their strong disagreement with the decision.

The farmers assert that the reduction will significantly impact their livelihoods.

A similar demonstration was held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in the area, where the farmers demanded a reversal of the price reduction.

The inscriptions on the placards included “We worked, you lied,” “Government celebrates while our families mourn,” and “We can’t pay our kids’ school fees.”

They questioned why the current administration reduced the prices when previous regimes had not.

The farmers indicated that delays in payment and the recent price reduction have made it challenging to meet basic household needs, including school fees, healthcare, and farm maintenance.

Although COCOBOD has announced payments to Licensed Buying Companies, many farmers claim the relief has not reached them.
