CPP threatens to force out Burkina Faso Ambassador over attacks on Ghanaian traders, describing Incident as “Act of War”

February 20, 2026
cpp

The Communications Director for the party, Oseo Kofi Acquah, stated that they would be forced to demand the declaration of the Burkina Faso Ambassador to Ghana as persona non grata and request his repatriation if their concerns are not addressed.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Naem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he expressed dismay that Ghanaian leaders have consistently disregarded the welfare of citizens over the years, which he believes is unsustainable.

He described the responses that have followed the incident as unacceptable and unsatisfactory, suggesting that the lives of Ghanaians appear to be of little importance to their leaders.

The party, among other demands, is calling for a detailed account of the incident in Burkina Faso through the Ghanaian Ambassador to the Sahel Region and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The party’s demands centre on full transparency and security assurances following the events in Burkina Faso.

They are calling for a detailed account of the incident, including the nationality of the perpetrators and a clarification on whether Ghanaians are being specifically targeted by extremist groups.

Additionally, they seek formal guarantees from the Ibrahim Traoré-led government regarding the safety of Ghanaian lives and property, alongside a formal apology.

Domestically, they are also demanding a clear briefing on the readiness of Ghana’s own security forces to safeguard its citizens.

He said this is more like a provocation to test Ghana’s ability to defend itself because the killing of our citizens was an act of war against Ghana, and if it was not deliberate, it would have been prudent for them to respect the bilateral relations between us and protect our citizens just as we have protected theirs.

He noted that if this had happened against a country like America, they would have responded in equal measure.

‘This is war! It can never happen to the United States of America, the United Kingdom, or even China; these countries would have retaliated. ‘What happened shows that Ghana is treated as a foolish country.”
