The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Mr Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah, has clarified that he never said boxing will be banned in Ghana but rather be suspended for reforms.
Speaking at the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee meeting with the media, Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah explained that his outfit only considered a temporary suspension of boxing activities to address pressing concerns within the boxing fraternity.
“It’s on record; I never told anyone that NSA is going to ban boxing but rather suspend it. Look, we sometimes need to make a hard decision. I think it’s a miscommunication. I said boxing will not be banned but rather suspended. We all have to follow the rules governing boxing.”
The NSA boss emphasised that he remains resolute and extended the mandate of the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee to April 2026.
Ghana Boxing remains a key discipline in Ghana’s sporting history and has produced world champions who have elevated the country’s image globally.
