Hon. Francis Kwabena Owusu-Akyaw Brempong (MP) has asked the minister for lands and natural resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, about the steps taken to strengthen mineral exploration and resource estimates for small-scale miners.
In response, Minister Buah said the ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), the Investor of Mines and Technology, and the Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small-Scale Mining Project to undertake geological investigations in 30 blocked-out areas.
He added that GGSA has completed preparatory works to embark on geological investigations on 20 blocks with financial support from the Ghana Gold Board, aiming to identify viable areas for small-scale mining.
“The GGSA is also actively mapping previously mapped regions to identify new mineral deposits and replenish depleting resources,” Minister Buah said, noting that about 180 designated areas are available across the country.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration will lead to the delineation of areas for resource estimates for small-scale miners in the coming year.
