You’II not sit at home and expect to join the Security Services through protocol without applying — Interior Minister

February 26, 2026
MUNTAKA MUBARAK

The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed that the government will under no circumstances permit unqualified individuals or those who have not undergone the recruitment process to join the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Fire Service, or Immigration Service.

He assured us that only applicants who have successfully navigated the recruitment process and meet the required standards will be allowed to join these services.

The minister emphasised that henceforth, individuals who bypass the recruitment process will not be considered for enrolment in any of the aforementioned services.

He made this statement on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, February 26, 2025, in response to concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin regarding the directive for applicants to take their aptitude test online, a departure from the previously used physical process.

The minister also addressed concerns about procurement processes and the selection of the IT company managing the online aptitude test.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak justified the adoption of the online system, arguing that it eliminates human intervention and reduces the potential for officials to exploit applicants for financial gain.

“I can assure you that the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama will not sit while others go through the hell of the drudgery of the process; others sit home, and then they just, under the name of so-called protocol, get recruited while those who went through the processes are dumped.”

He stressed that anyone wishing to join these services must go through the formal system—including body selection, aptitude tests, and medical examinations—and will only be recruited if they qualify.

He further noted that over 85 per cent of applicants have successfully completed their aptitude tests. Those who were unable to participate during the initial phase have been granted a second opportunity to take the test.

According to him, this new approach aims to eliminate fraud and ensure that “conmen” who have previously exploited the process to extort money from applicants are dealt with decisively.
