President John Dramani Mahama is set to depart the capital for Arusha, Tanzania, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, to attend the opening ceremony of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights’ 2026 judicial year.
As the Special Guest of Honour, President Mahama will witness the official launch of the Court’s 20th anniversary, marking a historic first for a sitting Ghanaian President to address the AU Court.
This year’s theme, “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa,” underscores the significance of the event.
During his visit, President Mahama is scheduled to engage in bilateral talks with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, President Mahama will return to Ghana immediately after the Monday programme.
In line with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, the Vice President will assume presidential duties in the President’s absence.
