Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has reminded the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East constituency, Baba Jamal, of his campaign promises to his constituents.
The speaker noted that there was the need for him to deliver on his promise to serve the people as he pledged to do.
He recounted how the legal practitioner informed the constituents that he was more interested in representing them in Parliament instead of serving as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.
The Speaker made the remarks at the swearing-in of Baba Jamal, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, after winning the recent by-election in the constituency.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday, March 10, in Parliament, where the oath of office was administered by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
The Speaker said, “You voluntarily offered yourself to serve the good people of the Ayawaso East Constituency. In your campaign, you stated that you want to serve them as a member of Parliament,” he told Baba Jamal.
“You are going to serve Ghana, and not as a high commissioner; I am going to hold you as my son.” I will hold you accountable to the good people of the Ayawaso East constituency,” the speaker added.
