March 13, 2026
PURC-2

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has announced a downward adjustment in utility tariffs for the second quarter of this year, effective April 1, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Commission, electricity charges will decrease by 4.81 percent, while water tariffs will be reduced by 3.06 percent.

These adjustments are in line with the Commission’s mandate to review tariffs quarterly, reflecting developments within the quarter.

The quarterly reviews are designed to track and incorporate movements in key factors that affect the operations of Utility Service Providers (USPs).

The decision to reduce tariffs is based on factors including the exchange rate between the Ghana Cedi and the US dollar, the domestic inflation rate, the electricity generation mix, and the cost of fuel, primarily natural gas, used to power thermal plants.

Furthermore, in promoting the green energy transition, the Commission has introduced a commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging tariff, marking its first implementation.
