The Mamprugu Youth Association – Accra chapter has called upon President John Dramani Mahama to establish an independent body to investigate the extrajudicial killing of Abdul Aziz Iddrisu.
The deceased was arrested alongside his two siblings in a suburb of Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, on February 17, 2026.
At a press briefing, the association’s spokesperson, Mr Yakubu Nambe, a private legal practitioner, stated that the Inspector General of Police verbally disclosed that Abdul Aziz Iddisru had been shot dead by the police.
Mr Nambe appealed to the president’s administration for the immediate suspension of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu.
He emphasised the need for an independent post-mortem examination by a reputable health institution, such as Korle-Bu or 37 Military Hospital, with full involvement of Abdul-Aziz’s family to establish the actual cause of death, as the association does not trust the Police Hospital to conduct an impartial examination.
Mr Nambe stressed that the circumstances surrounding Abdul Aziz Iddisru’s death demand decisive action from relevant authorities, warning that silence or delay would only fuel suspicions of state power misuse.
