Yaw Asamoah Buckman, Director of Procurement at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has announced his candidacy for the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa vice chairmanship position. Citing his dedication and loyalty to the party, Buckman emphasised his deep roots and tangible achievements within the organisation.
The young politician asserts that his extensive experience has equipped him to fill the leadership vacuum left by the late constituency chairman.
In a recent interview on Frontline at Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Buckman highlighted his progression within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), starting from the grassroots level.
He is currently serving his second term as Deputy Communications Officer, further honing his skills in mobilisation and messaging.
Buckman noted that his service to the party has been exemplary, enabling him to rise through the ranks.
The recent passing of the constituency chairman has led to the vice chairman assuming the role of acting chairman, thereby creating a vacancy. Buckman indicated that having served under the acting chairman, he believes it is now his turn to aspire to the position.
In 2018, Buckman successfully contested for the communications role, winning by a margin of over 200 votes.
He attributed his success to hard work. Buckman also noted that he welcomes healthy competition, acknowledging that his former lecturer has expressed interest in contesting.
He is confident in his strong connections with the people and understanding of their needs.
As Director of Procurement at YEA, Buckman cited his achievements, including increasing community police roles from 19 to 113 under his efforts, with 213 individuals currently benefiting from YEA programmes.
Additionally, he secured GETFund scholarships for 16 deserving students in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa. Buckman dismissed the notion that politics is solely about financial gain, particularly among the youth.
