President Mahama to lead Ghana’s delegation to the UN special session on reparatory justice

President John Dramani Mahama will lead Ghana’s delegation to a high-level session at the United Nations focused on reparatory justice and the remembrance of victims of the transatlantic slave trade.

The visit to New York City and Pennsylvania will see the President deliver a keynote address at a High-Level Special Event on Reparatory Justice at the United Nations Headquarters, bringing together global leaders and dignitaries to address historical injustices linked to the trafficking and enslavement of Africans.

As part of the programme, the President will also address the UN General Assembly in commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, while presenting Ghana’s position adopted by the African Union on recognizing these acts as among the gravest crimes against humanity.

The visit will further include a wreath-laying ceremony at the African Burial Ground Memorial in New York, as well as engagements with academia and the Ghanaian community, including a visit to Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
