A level 400 student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources by name, Godfred Akomaning (a.k.a. Immortal Legend), has allegedly taken his own life.
The student, in a suicide note he left, explained that he had been struggling with serious mental health issues long before arriving at the university.
He claimed in the note that none of his friends were aware of his struggles, and his family offered no meaningful support.
Reporting the story on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Kwame noted that the student said in the suicide note that his condition steadily worsened until it finally overwhelmed him, leading to his tragic decision.
The student reportedly passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, while receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, the school, in a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar and Head of the University Relations Office, Alfred Ohenenana Appiah, said a medical report from the hospital identified the cause of death as organophosphate poisoning.
The university said the student’s family has been informed, and the body has been deposited at the Sefwi Anwiaso Community Hospital mortuary.
“Management of UENR expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the university community,” the statement said.
The school added that investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, with assurances that further details will be made public once confirmed.
