Newly appointed Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz has described his current role as his “biggest challenge”, asserting that while he has “coached eight national teams”, he remains “ready to deliver”.

The 73-year-old tactician was recently named successor to Otto Addo, who was dismissed by the Ghana Football Association following four successive defeats.

Hired on a four-month contract that runs through the end of the FIFA World Cup, Queiroz is tasked with immediately stabilising a squad in transition.

Speaking at his official unveiling ceremony on Thursday, April 22, 2026, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be here today,” he said. He further noted that “Since I arrived, I have started to feel it.

This is the soul of the Black Stars. The soul of the Black Stars is huge, and that means our dreams and expectations are huge.”

Despite his extensive resume, the veteran manager views this appointment as a career pinnacle.

“After eight national teams and important competitions, this is the biggest challenge of my life, and I am ready for that. I can promise and guarantee that I will bring 40 years of my experience [to the job],” he added.

Queiroz now prepares Ghana for a demanding World Cup campaign in Group L, where they are scheduled to face England, Croatia, and Panama.
