The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially terminated its relationship with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, effective immediately.
The decision, announced late Tuesday, brings an abrupt end to Addo’s second stint at the helm of the senior national team.
While the GFA did not explicitly cite a reason for the sudden dismissal in its brief statement, the move follows a period of mounting pressure and underwhelming performances that have left fans and stakeholders demanding a change in leadership.
In a formal release, the association expressed its gratitude to the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach for his service.
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement read.
Addo, who famously led Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a tense playoff against Nigeria, returned to the job with hopes of rebuilding a squad in transition.
However, inconsistent results in recent qualifying campaigns and a perceived lack of tactical identity saw his approval ratings plummet among the Ghanaian faithful.
Despite the high hopes attached to his “long-term building” philosophy, the immediate demands of the Black Stars’ schedule appear to have forced the GFA’s hand.
The GFA has remained tight-lipped regarding a potential successor, stating only that it will communicate the “new technical direction” of the team in due course.
Speculation has already begun to swirl in Accra, with names of both local veterans and international tacticians being tossed into the ring.
