Apologise to Kwesi Appiah and reappoint him as the next Black Stars Coach – Rev. Osei Kofi

April 2, 2026
KOFI

Ghanaian football legend Reverend Osei Kofi has called upon the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to entrust the management of the senior national team to former coach Kwesi Appiah.

Speaking in a recent interview following the dismissal of Otto Addo, the two-time AFCON winner expressed his firm belief that Ghana’s historical preference for foreign managers has failed to yield meaningful results.

Reverend Osei Kofi argued that Kwesi Appiah possesses an intrinsic understanding of the nation’s unique style of play. He suggested that Appiah would transition into the role seamlessly, unlike a foreign tactician who might struggle to grasp the cultural and technical nuances of the squad.

Consequently, the legendary forward underscored the necessity for GFA officials to humble themselves, apologise to the former coach, and re-engage him for a new tenure.

The 1965 AFCON champion further emphasised that the appointment of an indigenous coach is the most viable path forward for the current Black Stars lineup.

To support his stance, he recounted how all of Ghana’s historic triumphs in major global tournaments were achieved under the leadership of local coaches rather than expatriates.

”Kwesi Appiah is the best coach to handle the Black Stars. A foreign coach will need time to study our style and that will be difficult for the person because we don’t have the time. Kwesi Appiah understands the Ghana brand of football. So if we have to apologise to him and get him back, that would be the best option.”

He stressed that continuity is crucial for the team’s development.

He maintained that if Ghana hopes to make a significant impact in future World Cup appearances, the GFA must settle on Kwesi Appiah to provide the necessary stability and vision.

The Ghana Football Association on March 31, 2026 parted ways with Otto Addo as Head Coach of the Black Stars.

The Association thanked him for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors, noting that a new technical direction will be shared in due course.
