Roads Minister Commends Local Contractors Over Progress on “Big Push” Infrastructure Initiative

April 2, 2026
Adonu

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has expressed appreciation to Ghanaian contractors working on the government’s flagship infrastructure programme, the Big Push initiative.

According to him, a significant number of contractors engaged under this programme are Ghanaians who are meeting expectations in terms of delivery.

Mr. Governs Agbodza noted that the commitment and professionalism exhibited by these contractors demonstrate the country’s growing capacity in road construction.

The minister made these remarks during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Accra, aimed at assessing progress, evaluating work quality, and addressing challenges affecting project timelines.

The areas inspected included the Accra-Tema Motorway, the Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road, and selected town roads in the Dawhenya area.

He interacted with engineers and contractors to identify and address potential issues for quality and timely completion.

The minister directed that dusty roads be watered regularly to mitigate the impact on motorists and residents.

The Roads Minister described the “Big Push” initiative as a bold step towards accelerating infrastructure delivery across the country.

He asserted that the government will, through this initiative, prioritise key road networks that connect production centres to markets and facilitate the movement of people and goods.

The success of the initiative, he noted, would depend on the collective effort of all stakeholders, each contributing diligently to the larger goal.

He encouraged contractors to sustain their momentum, noting their success would transform the nation’s road infrastructure and support long-term development, and urged them to maintain quality work.

The government, he added, had provided an enabling environment and was up-to-date with its obligations to the companies.
